Putin says peace talks must guarantee Russia, Ukraine and all of Europe’s security

Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, has declared that future negotiations for ending the war in Ukraine should focus on security guarantees for both countries, as well as on establishing a broader security framework for Europe.

In an interview for Russian state television on Thursday, a day after meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Putin confirmed that Moscow is ready to resume negotiations with the United States’ mediation next month.

According to him, the aim of the talks should not be a temporary ceasefire, but reaching an agreement guaranteeing security and ending the conflict steadily.

The goal of these talks will be to ensure the security of Ukraine and Russia after reaching peace agreements, in their final form, and not through a temporary ceasefire for a short period of time, Putin said, adding that Russia is willing to resume contacts for that purpose.

The head of the Kremlin also reiterated Moscow’s stance that negotiations should include European security architecture as a whole. He said Witkoff had stressed the importance of this issue and that he agreed with that approach.
