Kosovo police have announced that they will start returning the patent partners, who have been temporarily taken by police and for whom the legal deadline for maintenance has passed.

This action comes after the Supreme Court Act, P.A. No. 29/2026, dated October 20, 2026, which police have accepted on November 2nd.

By this act, it has been declared illegal and the paragraph 3 of Article 17 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Administration has been abolished, which regulated the procedure of counterinsulting.

Police clarify that the Supreme decision does not annul the safeguard clause of the vehicle’s driving ban or the measures previously pronounced. They continue to be in force until the deadline is completed.

The change is only related to the physical maintenance of the police patent partner, which, according to Article 244 of the Law on Road Traffic Rules and the Supreme Act, cannot last more than eight days.

Police have made it clear that the return of the document does not imply that the driver can direct the vehicle if the ban action continues to be active against him.

The vehicle’s direction during this measure is even a violation of a 500 – dollar fine, a six – month ban on direction, five negative points, and the vehicle’s temporary seizure.

Police have warned that they will continue controlling and verifying safeguard clauses through relevant evidence.
