What are you imagining in secret? The study reveals what sexual fantasies indicate about your personality

A study of over 5,200 adults has revealed interesting links between sexual fantasies and personality traits. Awareness, discipline, and emotional state can affect their frequency, but what we imagine does not necessarily determine who we are

Sexual fantasies are a natural part of intimate life, although many people are reluctant to talk about them. They may be romantic, courageous, or totally different from the desires a person would like to achieve in real life.

But can our more intimate fantasies reveal something about personality?

One Study published in the scientific magazine PLOS ONEA He analyzed the responses of more than 5,200 adults, identifying links between sexual fantasies and five key personality traits: extenuation, compatibility, accountability, negative emotionality and opening up to experience.

The Most Disciplined Fantasizing Most Rarely

One of the most interesting findings is related to people characterized by accountability, self – discipline, and law enforcement.

Those with higher level of responsibility and compliance tend to report less sexual fantasies, whether romantic or more experimental.

Researchers noted that this relationship was especially linked to the sense of responsibility and respect of social standards.

However, the lowest frequency of fantasies does not imply a lack of sexual desire.

When Fantasies Are Linked to Emotions

Another interesting result involves people who experience more often negative concerns, sadness, or emotions.

The study showed that negative emotionality, especially the tendency to depressive mood, was associated with more frequent sexual fantasies.

Researchers suggest that for some, intimate imagination can serve as a way to cope with emotional tension, loneliness, or unpleasant psychological conditions.

However, that remains a hypothesis, as the study does not testify to cause-passing connections.

Do people imagine extraverte?

In contrast, the most social people do not necessarily have more frequent sexual fantasies.

Extreversion and opening to new experiences showed no strong and lasting link to fantasy frequency.

This suggests that creativity, courage, and the desire for adventure are not automatically translated into more active sexual imagination.

Fantasies are not a direct mirror of character

The research included different categories of fantasy – romantic, intimate, explorer, and dominant, or submissive.

A calm person can imagine courageous situations, while someone with dominant character can speculate on a completely different role.

This does not mean that you really want to experience these scenarios.

Why are such results important?

For many years sexual fantasies have often been treated with regard to problematic behavior or psychological disorders.

Contemporary studies help them to be understood as a common part of human experience without prejudice.

While some personality traits are related to the frequency of fantasies, such connections are not enough to determine one’s character or psychological health.

The main conclusion is that there is no single way of imagining. What happens in intimate imagination does not necessarily reflect a person’s conduct, morals, or real desires. /Telegraphy/
