After nearly a century, it is rediscovered in Indonesia that the primatti was thought to have disappeared

A rare primat, thought to have disappeared, has been rediscovered on the island of Bangka, Indonesia, as it had not been scientifically documented since the 1930s, Reuters reports.

Slow Bangka Loris (Bangka slow loris), a small, nightly, poisonous prima, has been found in areas of the island where inhabitants have encountered it in courtyards, gardens, plantations, and roads.

According to a new study, the Indonesian animal rescue organisation Alobi has documented more than 90 individuals of this species during 2015,2025. Of them, 86 have been rehabilitated and converted into adequate natural habitats.

The species was classified as critically endangered and possibly extinct, since for decades there had been no reliable scientific record of its survival.

The discovery is especially important, since it shows that some species can survive even when not observed by scientists for many years.

However, the survival of Bangka’s slow loris continues to be threatened by habitat destruction, especially because of the illegal tin mines and the expansion of oil palm plantations.

Scientists point out that protecting the remaining forests and further research are essential to determining the size of the population and preventing its extinction.
