Analyst Lirim Mehmetaj has criticised efforts to shift the government’s responsibility to local Kosovo Police officials over the Arlinda Zekaj assassination case.

In Debat Plus, Mehmetaj has said that since the arrival of Albin Kurti to power, supporters of the Government have been pushing for political responsibility for problems in the country to attribute local mechanisms rather than even to the central level.

He has stressed that responsibility for the police situation also falls on the minister, citing lack of equipment, uniforms and cars for police officers.

Mehmetaj has declined that the Arlinda Zekaj case will only be treated as a failure by local police officials, saying the responsibility of the entire system should be considered.

He has also told of a personal case when he had reported a threat to him in the police station, but according to him, the case was not handled properly. Mehmetaj has claimed there had been interference by the minister for the case to be handled differently.
