Opinion polls show a tight race between Netanyah’s Likud party and its right-wing allies in the face of a rival alliance led by Gadi Eisenkot, former chief of the army’s general staff, known for his tough stances on security issues and supported by right-wing and centre-based voters.
The polling stations opened at 7: 00 a.m., local time, while the vote will be completed at 10: 00 p.m.
During the campaign, Netanyah has relied on his leadership during the war and alliance with US President Donald Trump, who has publicly supported and joined Israel in the fight against Iran.
On Sunday, Netanyahu declared that Trump was willing to intervene again to finally remove the Iranian threat, but only if he remained in power.
