The Netherlands will not attend the European Song Festival, Eurovision 2027, after the public broadcaster The NPO has decided to withdraw because of the controversy surrounding Israel’s participation.
This decision comes after last month it was warned that the Netherlands would return to the race in 2027.

NPO media director Jurre Bosman has declared Israel’s participation triggers different reactions to Dutch society, prompting debates and divisions.
Meanwhile, NPO chairman Jet de Ranitz has indicated that, after discussions with broadcasters, the impression was initially created that there was sufficient support for the return of the Netherlands, but that a proper way for participation was not found.
For that reason, according to her, it is still early for the country to return to next year’s festival. However, The NPO has confirmed that Eurovision will continue to be broadcast in the Netherlands.
Eurovision Director Martin Green has expressed regret at the decision, but has said organisers understand and respect the Netherlands’ position.
The Netherlands was among the countries that boycotted Eurovision 2026 due to Israel’s participation, along with Iceland, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia.
Ireland has confirmed that it will not participate in the 2027 edition, while in Spain it has voiced support for the boycott. Meanwhile, the Czech public broadcaster has withdrawn from the race, citing spending cuts.
Eurovision 2027 is expected to be held 15 May in the city of Burgas, Bulgaria.
