Haradinaj: Government makes plans, private sector makes economic development

Alliance MP Ramush Haradinaj has estimated that Kosovo’s economic development should be the Government’s top priority.

Haradinaj has stressed that the private sector is the main pillar of economic development, while the role of institutions and Government should be creating favourable conditions for investment and providing security for investors.

According to him, fiscal policies should be drafted in co-operation with the private sector and investors, including foreign ones.

First we must return to developing the country. It is known that the private sector is the one that makes economic development. Institutions and Government make the plan in co-operation with the private sector, with investments and investors as well as foreigners. At the same time, fiscal policies also make it safe for investors. Economic development, of course, is first, then comes the whole cost of life, health insurance, and other insurance. Citizens want to feel secure and I believe this is important to happen, Haradinaj has told EO.

According to World Bank data, foreign investments are considered among the drivers of Kosovo’s economic development.

Although increased foreign direct investment has been noted in recent years, according to official data, discussions have constantly been raised about their composition, especially the fact that a significant part of these investments relates to diaspora and the real estate sector.

Meanwhile, in an effort to ease the impact of inflation, the government had taken measures to raise salaries in the public sector.

For the private sector, one of the measures undertaken has been the platform BARuperpuda, launched in 2023, through which the Government subsidies employers by covering workers’ salary for the first six months, worth 350 euros a month.

Meanwhile, according to estimates by economic experts, wage growth has not necessarily been translated into improving citizens’ standard of living, due to high inflation, which has affected purchasing power.
