Kurti for protests in Albania: Government must not bow oligarchy

Kosovo Prime Minister and Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti has commented on protests in Albania, saying government should not be subject to oligarchs and their economic interests.

In a speech to his associates, Kurti has said developments in Albania convey with concern and love, since, as expressed, it is an integral part of the Albanian nation.

He has stressed that Albanians must build democratic institutions and justice that are not influenced by the power of capital.

It is of vital importance that we Albanians testify to ourselves that we know to build justice and democracy that sticks to the pressure of capitalism and government that does not bend to oligarchy, Kurti has declared.

He has expressed surprise at efforts to link LVV to protests in Albania, saying his party is already in power and does not organise protests.

Today we are the governing force and not protesters, Kurti has said.

However, he has added that LVV has never hidden its involvement in protests, and has stressed that it has not acted anonymously.

The head of LVV has demanded that, in addition to identifying and punishing those responsible for the violence during the protests, the causes leading to the clash are considered.

According to him, reasons and circumstances should be understood that turn political discontent into violence.

Kurti has stressed that Kosovo should not be seen as Albania’s rival and that Pristina supports its advances on the road to the European Union, economy and tourism.

He has said that the violence and hurt of people during the protests are concern for all.
