Serbia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Marko Djurovic, used the address to the UN Security Council to criticise the leaders’ reactions in Kosovo and Albania to the act of first degree against former KLA leaders. In an address requiring justice for all victims, he included the slogan “Liria has the name and protests in support of former KLA leaders.

Djuric singled out Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Albania’s president, Bajram Begaj, charging that they had attacked the act of prejudice against Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.

And what happened next? Instead of calling for reflection, some of the most prominent political figures in Pristina and Tirana responded by attacking the bias and celebrating men who had been convicted. Albin Kurti called the sentences unacceptable. Albania’s president, Bajram Begaj, said nothing could tarnish so-called The KLA and repeat the slogan “Liria has a name, Djuric has declared.

Thus, in addition to the discussion of criminal responsibility, frustrations against political statements and public gatherings took place in the Serbian minister’s speech. He cited protests in Pristina, The Hague, New York and other European cities.

Djuric stated that the indictment stipulates individual responsibilities and does not imply the collective guilt of Albanians. However, speaking of equal justice, he repeatedly referred to the KLA as the so-called KLA.

Let me say this without any uncertainty: the judgment determines individual responsibility. He does not declare collective guilt against the Albanian people. Albanian families suffered crimes committed by various actors, including so-called KLAH, he declared.

The Serbian minister said the indictment is linked, among other things, to killing 96 people. He cited other cases of crimes against Serbs and non-Albanians, claiming that justice has not gone far enough.

In the same speech, Djuric rejected what he described as the reduction of the war in a single torturer of victims and authors.

Wars and armed conflicts are never black and white. They are complex tragedies and many layers in which suffering cannot be reduced to a single tertiary tertiary torture of victims and authors. We must have the courage to face the complete truth. Serbs and Albanians were victims, Djuric has declared.

He also criticised amendments adopted in the Kosovo Assembly, which, according to him, aimed at limiting the mandate of the Specialised Chambers. Djuric presented political reactions and efforts at legal changes as reasons for concern over justice and witness safety.

Consider the message this sends. First, a court speaks. Then political leaders condemn its conclusions. Then politicians try to change the rules that regulate that same court. How can he have faith in justice under such circumstances a witness who has risked his family’s confidence in witnessing?

In closing his stance on the issue, Djuric said Serbia seeks justice for each victim, despite ethnic affiliation.

Not a Serbian version of justice, not an Albanian version of justice. Justice, which is the same for all, he has emphasized.

The appeal for universal justice, however, accompanied him with a long list of criticisms against Pristina and Tirana, where the country also had a solidatory slogan.
