EU: Still early to know whether bomb threats on planes are linked

The European Union has reacted Thursday after a wave of bomb threats, due to which a large number of flights from different European countries have been forced to deviate.

EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzzikostas has stated that it still cannot be determined whether the reported incidents have inter-connections while condemning any threats to civilians.

It is still early to draw conclusions if reported incidents are interrelated, Tzikosta has stated, stressing that any threat to civilians is unacceptable.

He has assured that European institutions are closely tracking the situation and are in contact with affected member states and the European Aviation Security Agency.

Security of the citizens’ defence and security remains a priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in contact with the affected member states and the European Aviation Security Agency, he has declared.

Tszikostas has called on national authorities to co-operate closely with airport operators, airline companies and law enforcement agencies.

He has recalled that national authorities are responsible for assessing security threats, investigating incidents and implementing necessary measures to ensure aviation safety.

This is the second time in a week that Europe faces such incidents. Even Tuesday, a large number of flights were forced to deviate due to similar threats.
