Food and Veterinary Agency ( The AUV has eliminated 5.56 tonnes of corn imported from Serbia, as during the raids it has been found to contain levels of B1 aflatoxin over the allowed border.
According to AUV’s announcement, contaminated corn has been identified in three economic subjects in Kosovo.

In Fushe Kosovo, 3 thousand and 270 kilograms of corn have been eliminated at the newspaper Thermo-1.P.K., in Prugoc, Pristina, 1,000 and 40 kg, while at NTP THE Hysey, in Zoom, 1,000 and 250 kg.
Aflattoxin B1 is a toxin produced by certain species of modge, which can be found in food products, especially corn cereals. Continued exposure to this substance can cause liver damage and increase the risk of developing cancer.
The danger also increases when contaminated corn is used as animal food. In such cases, toxins can pass into milk in the form of analthoxin M1, posing a threat to consumer health as well.
For this reason, AUV has called on farmers, producers, and traders to control the origin of animal food and to ensure proper conservation conditions.
The agency has also demanded that corn, in which it has been found, cross the allowed Aflatoxin B1 limit not be used or traded.
