The directors of Roc Nation Sports International, the agency representing Winnicius Junior, have shown how Arsenal was very close to the transfer of Real Madrid’s star during the summer, but in the decisive end resulted in Brazilian love for the Spanish giant.
He went to Madrid at a very young age and I think there is a feeling of comfort, a desire to be there and build something at Real Madrid, said Grant Veitch, director of the recruiting of African footballers in Roc Nation.
He’s competing for a place in formation, but it’s about the top club. I tell all my clients that their careers have reached a climax only when they played a Real Madrid Champions League final.
Other possibilities arose. But I think the feeling of comfort he has and the fact that he’s already a star at Real Madrid kept him there. He wanted to stay.
Of course, you may try another route, but the fact that it is there from a very young age, the desire to build up your reputation and continue to gain more trophys with Real Madrid, is the main reason that it has stayed, Weitch added.
Roc Nation’s president, Michael Yormack, confirmed that Arsenal had been very committed to the Brazilian transfer.
You’ve seen the news. The Arsenal was very involved and insisted extremely much, Yormack explained.
But, as Grant said, Winnitius’ heart is in Madrid. There he always wanted to be, there he is, and he hopes to stay for the rest of his career. I don’t think this has ever been in doubt.
Had Winnitius seriously considered the possibility of moving to Arsenal?
Of course I do. When a club like Arsenal looks forward to you and makes you feel really wanted, of course you should listen to the offer.
But he’s where he wants to be and we’re glad he’s there. It’s not often that a footballer starts his professional career at a club and ends up there.
He started his journey at age 18, and now he’s 26. He’s already won too much trophy. Staying in a single club, the best club in the world, the entire career would be something very special, Yormack concluded. /Telegraph/
