Following numerous reactions to the institutional treatment of domestic violence cases, the Constitutional Prosecutorship in Pec has called for more commitment and vigilance by state prosecutors, especially during custody.
Prosecutor-in-chief Valbona Disha-Hajoya’s post has held meetings with prosecutors and the administrative staff of the institution, following its appointment by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council.

At the meeting, Disa-Hajoya has asked prosecutors to react in time and provide professional treatment of each case, emphasising on cases handled during stewards.
This development comes after 49-year-old Arlinda Zekaj’s assassination in Pec, a case that has sparked reactions and protests, and has brought to the attention the responsibility of institutions in dealing with cases of violence against women.
Under domestic changes, Disha-Hajoaj has appointed prosecutor Ermal Demhaja co-ordinator of domestic violence cases for an indefinite period.
It has also called on administrative staff for greater commitment, respect for legal provisions and avoidance of eventual concessions.
However, beyond the requirements for vigilance and commitment, it remains important that these pledges be translated into concrete actions so that cases of domestic violence do not remain just files in institutions.
