Three people have been arrested in Kosovo under an international action against an alleged criminal network that allegedly deceived citizens through false investment platforms.

Kosovo police, on the orders of the Special Prosecutor, have conducted raids at five locations in Pristina, Fushe Kosovo and Ferizaj.

According to the Police’s announcement, the detainees are MP, I.H. and F.Z., suspected of participating or organising an organised criminal group, fraud, unauthorized cyber access and computer fraud.

By order of the Special Prosecutor, the three suspects have been detained for 48 hours.

During the raids, police have temporarily seized cars, mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices that can serve as evidence in criminal procedure.

According to investigators ‘ doubts, individuals involved were represented as agents or financial mediators and deceived citizens, mainly German – speaking, by convincing them to transfer money for alleged investments in financial instruments and cryptovaluta.

Police suggest that the profits presented on online platforms were allegedly extinguishable, while the transferred money was not invested according to promises made to the victims.

The operation in Kosovo is part of an international action, during which raids have also been conducted in Albania, Cyprus, Israel, Finland and Northern Macedonia.

The event is conducted in co-operation with German authorities and international partners. Prosecutors and investigators from Germany and cybercrime experts from Europol participated in the operation, while co-operation has been eased by Eurojust.

The Special Prosecutor and the Kosovo Police have indicated that investigations are continuing to completely whitewash the alleged criminal activity, identify other persons involved and track down property that may have been seized by criminal acts.
