Trade and Industry Minister Mimoza Kusari-Lila has held a meeting with the European Commission for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, following the adoption of the Joint Declaration between the European Union and Western Balkan partners for strengthening research and innovation.

The first Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Kryeziu Progress and Kosovo Ambassador to Brussels Agron Bajrami also participated.

The focus of our meeting was to advance co-operation with the European Union, to increase the participation of Kosovo’s scholars, universities and innovative businesses in European programmes, especially in Horizon Europe, as well as the further development of the Innovation Fund, wrote Kusari-Lila.

It has stressed the importance of advancing the Law for Innovation and the creation of sustainable funding mechanisms for supporting research, development and innovative enterprises.

Also, I highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of women in innovation and professional education and training, including dual education, in preparing young people according to labour market needs, she has declared.

According to the minister, another priority is Kosovo’s involvement in European Innovation Screboard, through better data collection and processing, performance measurement and the drafting of effective policies.

Co-operation with European partners and research and innovation are essential to turning Kosovo’s potential into ideas, products and competitive businesses, creating new opportunities for economic development and for our young people, has ended Kusari-Lila.
