Kurti’s participation in the summit comes at a time when Kosovo is seeking concrete steps from European institutions for advancing the EU integration process, including support for obtaining candidate country status and opening membership negotiations.

A day before the summit, Kurti has met with Commissioner Marta Kos in St. Stefan of Montenegro, where they have discussed reforms, Kosovo’s European integration and the need for the country’s democratic progress to be reflected in concrete decisions by the European Union.

After the meeting, Kurti has stressed that fully functional institutions will enable Kosovo to speed up reforms. He has also cited the benefits expected to bring integration into the Unicunic Euro payment Zone ( SEPA, praising that citizens, businesses and diaspora will save around 58m euros annually.

Under discussions on the Berlin Process, the prime minister has also called for implementation of agreements reached among the countries of the region, including the diploma recognition agreement, which, according to him, all sides, including Serbia, must implement.

According to the preliminary agenda, the official arrival of leaders and statements for the media are set to start at 09:30, while the start of the Leaderial Summit is scheduled for 10:20.

The Berlin process, launched in 2014, aims to strengthen economic and political co-operation among Western Balkan countries, facilitate movement and bring the region closer to the European Union.
