The signal newspaper exclusively teaches the identity of 33-year-old who has taken over ownership of one million euros seized at the Merdare border point eight months ago.
It’s about Fatlind Akif, which was submitted to the Special Prosecution on 23 October, claiming that the entire amount belongs to him but that, according to information provided by the signal, has failed to prove the origin of the money.
But how did all of this start?
On February 24, 2026, at the Merdare border point, during the control of a Mercedes Spronter vehicle, white and Albanian license plates, in which three people were located, officials discovered a modified space within the vehicle.
The most detailed search highlighted a staggering sum of money ? A million euros, hidden in that space.
The money was seized, while the case was passed to economic crimes investigators, who, with the Special Prosecutor’s permission, launched investigations into their background allegations and transportation.
Eight months later, Fatlind Akif also took the stage.
As the signal learns, during the interview on October 23rd, in the presence of the defence attorney, Akif declared that the amount of one million euros belongs to him.
However, according to information from the investigation, the 33-year-old failed to testify to the background of financial means, nor to clarify his connection to the three people who had transported the money through Merdare.
After interviewing by the prosecutor and the random investigators, Akif was decided to stop for 48 hours.
The case is being investigated for the criminal acts money laundering and the participation or organisation of the organized criminal group.
Investigations into the origin of one million euros and the circumstances of transporting them are still under way.
