German Chancellor Friedrich Merz accused Russia on Saturday of trying to destabilise Germany, warning that Moscow poses a growing threat to European security.
We are facing a massive threat east of our continent. Russia’s aggression fight against Ukraine has deeply shaken the peace order in Europe, Merz said at a convention of the Christian Social Union, the co-government party in Munich.

And we also see that Russia seeks to destabilise Germany day after day, he added.
Merz warned that the threat extends beyond Ukraine, citing cyber attacks, sabotage and efforts to attack critical infrastructure across Europe, Euronews writes.
This threat is no longer limited to Ukraine. Throughout Europe, we are witnessing cyber attacks, sabotages, attempts at attacks against critical infrastructure, such as it was at Leipzig Airport on August 4th, and efforts to destabilise our democratic society, he said.
All this threatens our freedom, and that is why we are investing in preserving our freedom, he added.
His comments followed an earlier warning by Germany’s foreign intelligence chief about the risk of involvement in the country in a violent conflict with Russia.
