Kosovo Prosecutorial Council ( The KKP has decided to suspend the chief prosecutor of the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pec, Joy Vucetaj, following developments following the tragic murder of Arlinda Zekinaj in Vitomirica of Pec.
The decision was made Thursday, October 29, 2026, during the extraordinary KPK meeting, which was called by State Chief Prosecutor Zejrullah Gashi.
According to reported information, Vucetaj’s suspension has been approved by seven votes for, following the State Chief Prosecutor’s recommendation.
In addition to the suspension, the KKP has also established the establishment of an investigative panel, under procedures for handling the chief prosecutor’s possible disciplinary responsibility.
The decision comes just four days after the assassination of Arlinda Zekaj, who was brutally killed in the village of Vitomirica in Pec on October 25th.
Her murder was suspected of her brother-in-law, Albert Sylaj, who was arrested after two days of police search.
The case has prompted powerful public reactions, especially after publishing documents that testify that the victim had sought help and urgent safeguard clauses from institutions before he was killed.
The signal newspaper had reported on Arlinda’s request to the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pec on October 22nd, just three days before her murder.
After the tragedy, serious questions have been raised regarding the actions of responsible institutions and whether authorities had taken necessary measures to protect the victim.
The support of chief prosecutor Vucetaj constitutes one of the most important institutional developments after the assassination, while it remains to be seen what the investigative panel will perceive regarding its possible disciplinary responsibility.
