The country’s prime minister, Albin Kurti, has criticised the functioning of the justice system in the country, saying it has often favoured the powerful, rather than protecting the weak.

At the Government’s meeting, Kurti has spoken of the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj in Vitomirica, Pec, citing the case as a consequence of an institutional concession chain, despite warnings he said received no answer.

The Government head has indicated that he has asked the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prepare detailed reports to identify concessions and responsibilities in any institutional link.

According to him, reports should be submitted by tomorrow, before 6:00, and then released.

Today there are three days of the cruel murder of Arlinda Zekaj, in Vitomirica, Peja. Arlinda was killed in front of the house by her brother – in – law. And last night, just before midnight, there was also an officer on the run. Each murder is a serious act, but it is even worse when obviously there has been a chain of systemic concessions from institutions that are responsible for security and justice. A murder of such warnings that were not answered did not actually have a different outcome. And that makes it even more unforgivable. Right after the first clue, Mr. Prime Minister and Justice Ministry Donika Grovall, as national co-ordinators for protection from domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence, has called for an emergency meeting with all relevant security and local justice institutions to get the correct information on this event. Meanwhile, as prime minister, I have asked the Justice and Home Ministry for a detailed report of evidence and concessions in each link to institutions, he said.

Kurti has stressed that the institutions responsible have until 6:00 tomorrow to deliver reports that, according to him, will be made public. He has noted the need for changes in the justice system, considering this issue of particular importance to the country.

Now, when we’re talking, there’s only 34 hours left to draft and hand over that report that we’re definitely going to share with the public. Tomorrow night, before 6:00, I expect the reports, Kurt said.

Among other things, Kurti estimated that reforming and functioning the justice system constitutes a national emergency for Kosovo, while he reiterated that the required reports would be made public.

Dear citizens, justice is not born by itself. It has manifested itself as necessitys against the injustice that was born in the world of inequality. Justice is the guarantee that the strong will not violate the weak just because they are. But in our Kosovo, and perhaps not only in Kosovo, justice unfortunately is not in defense of the weak, rather, justice has often appeared on the wing of the strong. Justice in Kosovo continues to be somewhat distorted. And there is nothing like it when the scales of a just (just) lady, the (man’s) right hand, are tied to a mighty and rich man, they have revealed one eye to see the scales of justice. And of course, the sword will never fall on criminals, but it will always fall on the weak, the poor, and the weak. The Republic of Kosovo no longer needs any evidence to prove that it is national urgency to lead justice, he said.
