The US vice president, JD Vance, has said the main reason for the republican’s loss in the Muslim elections is war, arguing that a significant part of voters who supported Donald Trump in the 2024 elections this time voted for the Democrats.

In a reaction following the election results, Vance said the analysis of voter turnout data showed that Republican supporters had come to the polls, but that had not necessarily translated into votes for his party’s candidates.

He cited Florida as an example, where, according to him, the electorate was nine percentage points above the republican, just less than in the 2024 elections. However, Vance said the main problem was not turnout, but the transition of part of Trump voters to Democrats.

Referring to a poll that, according to him, had accurately predicted the results, Vance said voters who had abandoned the Republicans had cited four main reasons for their decision: ending the war, focusing on the cost of living and inflation, implementing the American and Paralytic policy and changing US relations with Israel.

The reason we lost is war. The president himself said this last night, Vance wrote, adding that any frank discussion of the republican future should start with the issue.

He also warned that in the coming months there will be efforts to shift the debate towards other issues, including amnesty for undocumented immigrants. Vance said he is open to changes in the way immigration policies are implemented, but rejected amnesty.
