Zelensky: Ukraine ready to freeze war along current front line

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has declared Ukraine ready to freeze fighting along the current front line and start diplomatic negotiations on ending the war with Russia.

In an interview for US television Fox News on Wednesday, Zelensky said that after reaching a ceasefire, Kiev would seek security guarantees from the United States and European countries.

Yeah. Now we have to freeze the conflict and I think this is a real way to end this war, he said, stressing that the ceasefire is the minimum Ukraine expects from Russia.

Zelensky made it clear that negotiations should start from the current positions of forces in the field of battle, while a peace agreement must be reached through diplomacy.

Asked whether Ukraine would agree to give up the Donba region in exchange for the end of the war, the Ukrainian president rejected the claim that Russia is winning on the battlefield. According to him, Moscow is trying to force Kiev to withdraw from its territories.

In 2026, they haven’t succeeded. They are not winning the battlefield, Zelensky said.

He acknowledged that the Ukrainian people are tired of war, but stressed that this does not mean that the country can give up its territories.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Donald Trump named the meeting productive the previous day in Oslo, Norway, with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

European leaders and American officials, including Jared Kouchner, also participated in the talks, which joined at a distance. Zelensky thanked the Norwegian prime minister for organising the meeting, saying the discussions focused on possible steps towards peace.

He voiced hope that Witkoff’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin would bring concrete results.

According to Zelenskyyt, among the first measures to reduce tensions could include ceasefires related to food safety, sea activities and energy infrastructure.

He said he had immediately supported American President Donald Trump’s proposal for a power sector ceasefire.
