On December 15th, it has been 4 years since Kosovo applied to obtain candidate status for the European Union. From that day on, Brussels never acted to move ahead with this Kosovo request.
During her visit to Pristina on October 1st, European Commission Chairman Ursula von Der Leyen said that along with Kosovo, the 27 member states must be convinced to proceed with candidate status.

But, Toby Vogel, Balkan expert at the Brussels-based Council for Democracy Policy, says it is the Commission that, according to him, must come up with Creative proposals about Kosovo’s European perspective.
This is about the fact that the five member states — Spain, Greece, Romania, Cyprus and Slovakia — do not recognise the state that declared independence on February 17th 2008.
According to him, however, neither in the European Union nor within member states has any political will for such a thing to happen.
As for dialogue, Vogel has said that special emissar Peter Sorensen is currently in the hearing phase and that, according to him, there are no developments expected in the coming months.
Without pressure on Belgrade, I don’t see things moving, Vogel said about Klan Kosova.
