When the news arrived in August that what might be the first personal vaccine against ARNi cancer had succeeded in a clinical test in the late phase of melanoma, oncologists and the public were thrilled. And that was before its creators discovered how well the therapy worked.
Now they have. Patients who received the experimental vaccine, along with the prescribed medicine, had a 42% lower risk of developing cancer after surgery or dying than if they would only take Kaytruda, paving the way for a completely new way to treat the disease, writes CNN.
This new vaccine is something we’ve never seen before about efficiency demonstrated and how it works, Dr. Michael Postow, managerial service chief at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, broadcasts the signal.
The vaccine is called Intismeran autogenean until it gets a commercial name.
The results will be presented in Madrid on Saturday at a meeting of the European Association for Medical Oncology. Merck and Modernna, developers of the experimental vaccine, published the data early Thursday, after reporting that they were published on the internet and later removed from the network.
Based on the results, companies are co-operating with regulatory authorities, they said in a press release, implying they could apply for approval with the American Food and Bars Administration soon. They are also testing technology in many other types of cancer, broadcast signals, including lung cancer and pancreatics.
