Kosovo President Justina Shiroka-Pula has requested urgent, complete and impartial investigation into the murder of Arlinda Zekij from Peja, stressing that the actions of institutions tasked with protecting the victim should also be reviewed.

Through a reaction, Shiroka-Pula has appealed to competent bodies that, in addition to the circumstances of the murder and criminal responsibility of the suspects, investigate the way the victim’s demands are addressed and that institutions have taken all necessary measures to protect it.

It should be explained whether all necessary measures for risk assessment and protection have been taken. Any signal for danger, any request for help, and any complaint against institutional inaction should be addressed with the utmost seriousness, it has written.

The president has stressed that protection of citizens’ lives and security is the obligation of institutions, demanding that investigations be conducted with urgency, professionalism and impartiality.

She has added that any doubt of institutional failure should be received clear answers and that no woman should remain vulnerable because it requires assistance from state institutions.

Shiroka-Pula has expressed condolences to Arlinda Zekiaj’s family and her relatives.
