Osmani: The responsibility cannot be buried along with Arlinda

Former Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has reacted after the assassination of Arlinda Sylaj Zakaj in Pec’s Vitomirica, also demanding responsibility from the system that should protect her.

Through a Facebook post, Osmani has said that killing women by violence is turning into a repeat wound in Kosovo, while criticising institutions for failing to ensure their defence.

She asked for protection. Justice left it in the hands of the killer, Osman wrote.

According to her, when a woman seeks help from the justice system and ends up dead, failure cannot be considered merely bureaucratic.

Her Kunat killed Arlinda with an axe, but even the system she had to protect must be held accountable. And this responsibility cannot be buried along with the victim, Osman has declared.

At the end of the response, Osman has expressed hope that such tragedies will not repeat and that no family will experience the pain of losing a woman in violence.

Arlinda Silla Zekaj, 49-year-old, was killed on October 25th in Vitomirica, Pec. She had sought help from police for domestic violence and had returned home with a police patrol, just minutes before she was found without signs of life.

Her brother-in-law, Albert Sylaj, suspected of being wanted by police.
