German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called for unity within his political alliance, warning that his country faces increasing threats from political extremists, as well as with daily efforts on Russia’s part to destabilise the country.

Merz reiterated his opposition to any change in defence plant policy, the strategy to isolate the far-right opposition party for Germany, following several calls within his party to consider a possible model of co-operation.

Anyone who thinks they should vote on these people has no place in our Union. They have no place among us, Merz said.
He also called on the Social Democrats ( The SPD) and the Greens not to enter a coalition in Berlin with the ruling party, which they accused of tolerate antisemitism within its ranks.

Merz warned of an extraordinary threat from Russia, stressing that she is seeking to disqualify Germany every day.

Relations between Berlin and Moscow have fallen to their lowest level since the Cold War, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

However, Russia denies allegations that it is conducting a hybrid campaign against Germany and other European countries.
