Honda develops technology that chairs electric cars during movement

Japanese company Honda is developing a new technology that enables wireless charge of electric cars during the movement, with the aim of reducing the need for stops at charge points and increasing transport efficiency.

The project is being realised in co-operation with two Japanese companies, Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec Corporation. All three companies have developed basic technology for a system that transmits electricity through units located below the surface of the road. Demonstration tests of technology are expected to begin on April 1, 2027.

The system functions through a magnetic field created by energy transmission devices installed under the road. A vehicle – based receiver picks up energy and carries it to the battery without needing cable or physical connections.

Technology is designed for different types of vehicles, from electric cars for personal use to trucks and large commercial vehicles. Honda aims to test it first in the logistics and transport sectors, where vehicles travel long distances and the time spent in stops directly affects the efficiency of work.

Under the plan, a testing route will be built by the end of 2026, where infrastructure sustainability, energy transmission efficiency and system safety will be assessed. Tests will also include checks to prevent the unwanted spread of the electromagnetic field.

One of the main objectives is to verify the operation of the system by up to 150 kilowatts, especially for large commercial vehicles. It will also examine the reliability of energy transmission when vehicles move at high speed.

If tests result in success, technology can reduce the time electricity vehicles spend in charge and help transport companies make better use of their vehicles. Caring during the movement would enable constant completion of the battery, lowering dependence on stoppages dedicated to charge.

However, the system is still in the phase of development and testing. Before widespread use in public roads, investments in the relevant infrastructure will be needed, as well as adapting vehicles with the necessary equipment for energy accession during the movement.
