Dobruna has said that the case is especially tragic, since she felt that the victim had been aware of the dangers and had taken steps to seek protection.

We’re talking about this event today. Unfortunately, it happened. And the disaster is worse than this woman, Erlinda Zakaj, had been a wise, conscious woman. We for years have tried to educate women who denounced my violence. And convinced him to sue me. This one has taken all this steps and has seen it every day he dies. Even it is far more tragic that the system has not failed, if it does, has created a situation that every woman in Kosovo can be vulnerable, no matter how aware she is of the risks, may be attacked, and there is no one to protect her. The system has failed.

According to her, failure of the system in protecting women’s rights is not recent, but a problem that exists for years.

OVER this system, let’s not say it’s now, this system has long failed, it’s developed so it doesn’t protect women’s rights. That’s all on paper. The Czech constitution all international conventions of human rights protection are applicable in Kosovo. Other conventions which have emerged later that the adoption of the Kosovo Constitution, such as the Istanbul Convention, for example, have been approved, are applicable in Kosovo on paper. In practice, the system has been structured in such a way that no one has responsibility, no one has protection not only of life, but of women’s dignity, Dobruna said.
